Agmark began operations in 1977 as a commodities brokerage firm, specializing in the cash market for soybean meal, aligning buyers and sellers and arranging transportation. By the early 1980’s railroads and trucking had been deregulated. Agmark Intermodal Systems was born from the opportunity ship bulk agricultural products by rail for the long haul and transload the railcars to trucks for local delivery. This presented feed mills and other agricultural concerns with the opportunity to combine rail economics and truck service and to avail themselves of a second source for transportation and a new set of origin points for their commodities.
